The Windows That Have Been Shut.

1500 hrs l Ahmadabad l

It is odd for Ahmedabad to see a breezy day at all, let alone in the first week of June. After possibly years of being shut, the windows were opened today. Beyond the rusty feel and creaky noise, lied the train rattles and screams of peacocks. Birds flying in each direction, almost directionless. The otherwise still trees started dancing as if performing a sacrificing ritual.

Ugh, the curtains furiously seem to obstruct the outside. I tie the curtain tie-backs. It's beautiful. The sky is so blue. The trees are so green. The world is so still. Why did I not notice?

The roaring sound of thunder, was it always so pleasant? Rain starts pouring, the trees shiver, peacocks hush, windows closed as rain enters the premises. Only the sound of thunder gets louder, and the kids'. Sitting in the mud, jumping in puddles, playing like there is no tomorrow.

But it is too late now. The window is closed again, the scenery is nothing more than a dull version of a telecast on the small screen. Dirty water dripped down my window shed, appears that the neighbour decided to wash their balcony today. It is too quiet. People are inside their homes again.

Only the thunder is loud. The colours are dull, not as vibrant anymore. The windows are shut again, for I don't know how long this time. The curtains have been let loose, covering every edge of the windows perfectly. Cars whoosh by, construction work has resumed, dirty water drips from my shed. I don't want to open the window anymore. The world is not so still anymore. I am directionless, shut inside a house with too many windows.

The windows that have been shut.
